For the past year, Walgreens has been working hard at negotiating a new contract with Express Script, without any success. Walgreens wasn't even asking for a rate increase, but still could not get Express Script to renew their contract. On Dec 31, 2011 their contract to be a provider for Express Script expired. My family fills our prescriptions with Walgreens, and I can vouch for their incredible hours and friendly service. Many a time, I have had a car full of sick kids, and have been able to easily pick up their prescriptions through a drive thru window at Walgreens. What's even more frustrating is that patients are not seeing their cost go down in exchange for having a smaller network of providers to choose from. In fact, many folks will be spending more on their prescriptions. I currently choose Walgreens pharmacy because they carry more generic options then other pharmacies, they offer 90 day refills opposed to 30, coupled along with their competitive pricing, they save my family money . You should check the back of your prescription insurance card to see if it says "Express Script", if it does you may be hassled by this, to be sure, you can check with your Walgreens pharmacy.
